Gate Repair and Refurbishing

Quabbin, Inc. can repair or refurbish your gate, as required. We can inspect your gate in the field or you can ship it to us. We will disassemble the gate, blast it to remove rust and corrosion, inspect the seats for wear and determine if it is repairable. Typical repairs needed to return a gate to the AWWA leakage specification include welding additional seat material, machining the frame and disc seats flat, retapping threaded holes on the disc and frame, applying new epoxy coating, installing and adjusting new wedges and wedge caps, hardware, seal and stop bar. We also check the condition of the thrust nut pocket to be sure it is structurally sound.

Below are images of a 36" x 24" sluice gate from the Regional Water Resource Agency in Owensboro, KY. The gate was blasted and repainted and the seats were repaired and remachined. The top wedge mounting blocks had excessive damage and required machining and resurfacing. Hardware, wedges and invert seal were replaced. This provided the customer with a like-new gate in less than 4 weeks for 1/3 the cost of a new one. With these improvements, the gate should last 20 more years!
